MADE FOR YOUR SPACE

The right cooling.
Start with your room.

A preliminary AC capacity estimate for Sri Lankan homes and small enclosed rooms. Add the details that influence your cooling needs.

01 / ROOM SIZE
02 / SUN & ROOF
03 / PEOPLE & USE

Equipment means computers, TVs and other heat-producing appliances. Enter their approximate operating watts, excluding the AC itself.

How the calculator works & assumptions

Solid’s preliminary guide: at a 10 ft ceiling, 9,000 BTU/h up to 175 sq ft; 12,000 up to 225; 18,000 up to 325; 24,000 up to 450; and 36,000 up to 600. The estimate interpolates between these points. This is Solid’s sales-sizing guide for warm lowland conditions, not an official Sri Lankan standard.

The room load scales upwards for ceilings above 10 ft; lower ceilings receive no automatic reduction. Strong sun adds 10%, then an exposed, poorly insulated roof adds 15%. The roof and ceiling adjustments are transparent planning assumptions, not an engineering model.

Two occupants are included in the base. Each additional person adds 600 BTU/h. Equipment adds 3.412 BTU/h per watt of heat. Sun and additional-person adjustments follow ENERGY STAR room-sizing guidance; its US area table is not used here.

Humidity, outside-air infiltration, wall / glass construction and local design weather are not calculated separately. An inspection is needed for exposed glass, high ventilation or unusual heat loads. Cooler hill-country rooms are flagged for review instead of applying an unsupported climate multiplier. The estimate assumes a normal comfort setting around 24–26°C.

The suggested size is the next listed nominal capacity at or above the estimate; actual stock and product capacity may differ. A larger AC is not automatically better—correct sizing matters for humidity control.
